I would like some advice please. My wife and I are heading for a divorce. I’m a total wreck at the moment. It’s an emotional time. I can’t seem to think straight. My head is all over the place.

Has anyone gone through a divorce here? How do you cope with it?

Fellow divorcé here. Ending a relationship is never easy. I’m sorry you’re going through this. It sucks, man.

The two most important parts about a divorce are the kids and the finances. Make sure to organize your money well because this will be a huge issue during the divorce.

Make sure to get all the necessary documents in order and take photocopies if you have to, i.e. credit card information, bank information, investments, mortgage. Collect all the statements and other documents involved.

Divorce can be overwhelming, but just take it one step at a time. Don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s nobody’s fault.

I’m guessing that when you got married, your finances were linked. Now, you need to go back to your own credit history prior to getting married. You will have to open a bank account in your name only and also apply for a credit card. You need to separate yourself from the finances you shared with your wife. Opening a bank account and getting a credit card will allow you to get back quickly on your feet.

Make sure you close any joint accounts you have!

I suggest you better get yourself a lawyer and a really good, experienced one at that. This is not a time to go for an inexperienced, less expensive lawyer who’s just starting out. If you want, I can make a suggestion, but maybe you already found somebody?

No, I don’t and yes, I’d appreciate it. I need all the help I can get.

When I went through my divorce, I used Matrimonial Home and I would suggest you give them a call.
